Engine Specs:
1. 1972 Pontiac 455 Block, Hard Blocked to bottom freeze plug, line bored, ARP studded mains and heads, decked to .005 above deck, bored .060 over (4.211) bore. Crank is a Nodular Pontiac 4.21 stroke that has been balanced and chamfered. Rods are 4340 CAT rods with ARP 220,000 psi 12 point bolts. Pistons are Ross with a 4.211 diameter. Piston to wall clearance is .005, piston to valve clearance is over .100 on intake and exhaust. Rings are file fit Total Seal with a 1/16th top ring RACE SET. Balancer is CAT Pontiac SFI approved piece and the Flex plate is made by Moroso and is SFI approved. Starter is a high-torque mini starter from Summit Racing.
2. Heads, Jim Butler Performance Edelbrock Performer PRM 72cc Large Port Race Head
a. Must use SCE 1.2x2.320 intake gasket
b. Ferrera series 6000 race valves, 2.11 intake and 1.77 exhaust
c. Harland Sharp 1.65 Roller Rockers, ARP 7/16 STUDS
d. Comp Cams Roller Valve Springs (917) with titanium retainer and 10 degree locks
e. Milled .050, chamber 66 cc, compression ratio 14 to 1
f. Flow Sheets included with heads. Flows 343 intake 255 exhaust at .700 lift
g. Felpro MLS head gaskets, (1016) .039 thick
h. Comp 3/8 9.350 length custom pushrods.
i. .050 Lash Caps installed
j. Custom KRE Stud girdle installed
k. Billet Custom JBP-Pontiac Valve covers installed with a Moroso evacuation system.
l. Cam is a solid roller custom cut from Comp Cams. 108 LSA, 104 ICL, duration @ .05 is 268/276, lift is .693. Good from 4500 to 7400 RPM.
3. Induction is a Holley 1050 Dominator (9375-1) with jet Extensions and bowl extensions
a. Use -8 line from a Mallory large port 4 port regulator
b. Fuel Pump is a Barry Grant 400 with a Barry Grant Canister filter. Uses -10 lines from pump to regulator.
c. 8 gallon fuel cell two -8 lines merged into a -12 line into the filter.
d. Set up to run on Q-16 race fuel
e. EGR mounted in headers with an AFR meter on dash to eliminate jetting issues and guessing by pulling plugs. EGR system has a data port for entry into a computer for constant monitoring.
f. Intake Manifold is a highly modified Edelbrock Victor with a 4500 flange. A ½ inch 7 layer wood spacer is used and on top of that a 4 hole aluminum spacer/Dominator Safety plate is installed. Intake Manifold had been fully ported to match much larger ports on heads.
4. Exhaust system is a set of Hooker Super Competition 2 inch by 27 inch headers for round port Pontiac Heads with slip on 3.5 inch turn downs to push fumes to the side.
5. Ignition System is an MSD billet distributor, MSD digital 6 box, Taylor 9 mm wires, NGK plugs. Line lock RPM set to 5500 and top end rev limit set to 7400. For electrical power (2) 850 CCA batteries are installed in the trunk.
6. Cooling system is a 4 core radiator from Summit with a 2500 CFM electric fan and a CSI electric water pump.
7. Transmission is a BTE T-350 3 speed rebuilt by Keith Hunter. Has a 700R-4 sprag 34 element, and a 4340 hardened drum. Used Red racing clutches between all gears for ultimate shifts, no slippage. Valve body has been reworked by Keith Hunter and shifts are quick and firm. Convertor is an A-1 8 inch with a .250 fin angle. Gives you a 5000 RPM stall.
8. Rear End is a GM 8.5 inch 10 bolt with a Richmond lightweight racing spool, C-clip eliminator kit, thicker axle tubes (.120) thick, 4.10 Richmond racing gears, synthetic lube, strange axles, and a custom made drive shaft made by Driveline Specialties in Baton Rouge and safe for 8000 RPM with a drive shaft safety loop installed.
9. Body is all steel with the exception of the hood and hood scoop. Hood is from US bodies in Florida and scoop is from Moroso. I have installed a K&N filter for a Dominator with the K&N filter lid and a Moroso carb to scoop seal kit.
10. Tires are New Goodyear. Fronts are 26X4.5 and rear are 28X10. Centerline Auto Drag rims are used.
11. Suspension on the front consists of 90/10 drag shocks with Moroso trick front springs. Rear suspension consists of 50/50 drag shocks with 1 leaf spring taken out and Southside Machine Lift Bars. Hooks really hard, no spinning. Tires only have 10 runs.
12. Interior has 1 racing seat from summit and a 5 way harness. Instrumentation consist of 1 teach with shift light set to 6500 RPM, temp gauge, oil pressure gage, and EGR/AFR meter. Shifter is a B&M pro-shift with reverse lockout. An 8 point Roll Cage is installed and tig welded by Tommy (Arties Nephew). All sheet metal work was done by Tommy as well.
13. Car and suspension was set up on 4 corner scales at exactly 51/49 "Perfect" with driver in and 8 gallons of fuel in the cell.
14. GOOD PART, PERFORMANCE!!!!
A. 60 FOOT TIME, 1.31
B. Best ¼ mile was a 9.52@144 at State Capital Drag way.
C. In El Paso at 4000 feet elevation and a density altitude of 7700 feet the car has run consistent 10.18 @127 with a best of 9.91 @ 133.
D. Estimated 676 HP to the rear wheel. With a 20% parasitic drag loss this equates to 845 HP at the flywheel and that is in El Paso with a density altitude of 7700 feet. At sea level you can expect another 50 to 75 horsepower.
