This is a 1979 Pontiac Trans Am converted to a full body race car. It has all original metal with the exception of the U.S. Body fiberglass hood and Jegs Hood Scoop. Engine is a 1973 Pontiac 455 bored .060 with a Pontiac Nodular Crank that has been turned, balanced and chamfered. Total displacement is 469 cubic inches. Compression ratio is 14 to 1 using Ross Flat top pistons from Jim Butler Performance along with file fit total seal race rings 1/16th. Heads are Jim Butler Performance Race Port Eldebrock Performer RPM. Total Airflow at .700 lift is 343 intake and 255 exhaust with 2.11 intake and 1.77 Ferrera Race Series valves. Combustion chamber volume is 66 cc after milling Intake is a Victor Race manifold that has been port matched and highly modified. Ports on heads and intake are the large port configuration of 2.35 X 1.18 and use SCE Gaskets. Carb is a holley 3375-1 1050 CFM DOMINATOR with bowl extensions, notched floats and quick change bowls. Valve covers are JBP billet with logo. Rockers are Harland Sharp 1.65 full roller with stud girdle and polly locks. Valve Springs are new COMP 917 set to 1.8 high with 10 degree locks and COMP Titanium Retainers with lash caps. Pushrods are COMP custom 3/8" at 9.350 long. Cam is a COMP CAMS Solid Roller with .693 lift intake and exhaust, 108 ICL and installed at 4 degrees advance at 104, duration at .050 inch is 268 intake 276 exhaust. Operating range is 4500 to 7400 RPM. Rods are CAT 4340 6.625 Pontiac H-Beam rods with ARP 220,000 rod bolts. All bearings are federal mogul race bearings. Crank is a Pontiac Nodular with a 4.21 stroke, balanced, polished, and chamfered for racing. Block is hard-blocked up to the bottom freeze plug with ARP MAIN and HEAD studs. Head gaskets are MLS .039 THICK, and pistons are .005 out of the hole. Block uses the stock Pontiac windage tray with a Moroso 7 quart drag pan. Starter is a mini gear reduction high torque starter. Uses a CSI electric water pump (35 gpm) and a 4 core summit racing radiator. Headers are 2" Hooker Super Competition with an air fuel wide band O2 sensor welded in for easier jet changes at the track. Transmission is a BTE T-350 full manual race with an A-1 8 inch 4700 stall convertor. Uses a custom driveline specialities draft shaft to transfer power to an 8.5 GM 10 bolt with a light weight spool and Richmond 4.10 gears, Summit differential coverall with a Main Cap stud brace and uses strange axles. Rims are Auto Drag aluminum with 8.5 inch on the rear with Goodyear 28X10 racing slicks and 4.5 inch front rims with 26inch Goodyear front runners. Front suspension is Moroso trick front springs with 90/10 drag shocks and the rear is leaf spring with 50/50 drag shocks and Southside Machine Lift bars. Car has no flex and launches straight due to cage being welded to the subframe connectors and the body. Battery system consist of 2 875 CCA batteries in the trunk with an approved shut off, no alternator. Fuel system consist of a Barry Grant 400 racing pump, 8 gallon fuel cell, #12 line to the COMP 500 filter, #10 line from the pump to the 4 port Comp Racing regulator, and #8 line to the carb.
This car is very fast so please be sure you know what you are getting into. Best run was a 9.52 at 144 mph in El Paso, Tx at 3700 feet elevation. Density elevation was 7200 feet. At seal level track expect 4 to 5 tenths faster after re-jetting. 60 foot times are consistent 1.31 with a best of 1.27 depending on well the track is prepped. I shift the car at 6800 and cross the line at 7000. This car pulls the front wheels very hard and usually carries through the 60 foot mark.
